About Me

I am a Research Fellow in transient astrophysics at the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Surrey. Previously, I was a Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory, where I worked on deep-learning methods for deblending and denoising galaxy images for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. I also held a CNRS Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Laboratoire de Physique de Clermont Ferrand, focusing on machine-learning techniques for photometric classification of supernovae. I completed my PhD in Physics at the University of Innsbruck (2014–2018). My research broadly spans extragalactic astrophysics, with a focus on galaxies, time-domain astronomy, and machine learning, and I am a member of the LSST-DESC, LSST-ISSC, Euclid, and SNAD collaborations.

My work lies at the intersection of astrophysics, machine learning, and large-scale data analysis. I develop deep-learning and statistical methods for astronomical imaging and time-domain surveys, with an emphasis on scalable and interpretable approaches. I have extensive experience in Python-based scientific computing and machine learning frameworks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn, as well as building automated pipelines for large survey datasets. My work also involves astronomical data processing tools and visualization techniques for analysing and interpreting complex data.

I am actively engaged in outreach and professional service, contributing to public events, educational initiatives, and collaborative research activities. I regularly participate in university-led outreach programmes, including stargazing and space science events, aimed at engaging wider audiences with astronomy. Within the research community, I contribute to international collaborations such as LSST and Euclid through roles in organising committees, publication efforts, and community initiatives. I also support peer review for leading astrophysics journals and mentor students through teaching, supervision, and research training.

When I’m not racking my brains about what’s up THERE, I read, do yoga and occasionally blog about books here, https://www.instagram.com/lostwispofcosmicdust/.
